Senior Research Associate – Local Government

ResPublica is looking for a Senior Public Policy Researcher to collaborate on a range of local government projects.

Our activity will explore aspects of devolution, governance, public service reform, and local economic growth. If you are excited by this agenda and keen to explore the opportunity for radical place-based thinking; we would like to meet you.

You may be a practitioner or an academic or have a research background in public policy or consultancy. Ideally you will have expertise in local government and strategy development.

This is a senior role, playing a key part in developing the core of our consultancy work on local Government and devolution, your experience should encompass some or all of the following:

  • A proven, track record in localism, devolution and governance, with relevant research work, published reports and articles.
  • An in depth understanding of the structures and dynamics of local government issues.
  • A good understanding of current public policy in this field, the ability to read the relevant political landscape and anticipate where policy agendas are going.
  • Extensive experience in developing research and proposals, demonstrating strong problem solving, critical analysis, project management and decision-making skills.

This role offers a unique opportunity to work with high profile partners, with one of the most influential public policy think tanks in the UK. We would be keen to employ or commission someone with a flair for public policy innovation, an eye for detail, and experience in producing high quality research reports.

We are looking for individuals with:

  • A proven track record in research and/or public policy with at least five years experience
  • Strong academic credentials
  • Ability to innovative and think creatively about new policy solutions
  • Interest in innovative ideas and thinking beyond traditional party political divides
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Strong track record to design and deliver projects to time and budget.

The successful applicant will be instrumental in managing research outputs and content for ResPublica’s clients, and for working collaboratively with other colleagues, contractors, and other partners. Candidates must also demonstrate experience in efficient project management. You will be a key part of the ResPublica team, supporting our Principal Research Consultant leading on local government and devolution.

We are open to candidates from a diverse range of professional backgrounds, such as public policy roles in Government and non-government organisations, research and consultancy, and academia. Fundamentally, we are looking for someone who believes in and supports the mission of ResPublica and the ideas that we advocate.

Terms

We are open to a fixed term contract (6 months) or consultancy appointment, full time or part time. There are also opportunities to transition to permanent senior roles with ResPublica should that appeal to the right candidates. The position can be based in London or elsewhere.
